What You'll Learn

The TCP/IP & OSI Models
How the layered models organise networking and why they matter for troubleshooting and security. Encapsulation and decapsulation as data moves down and up the stack, and the protocol data unit at each layer (frame, packet, segment). Mapping real protocols onto the OSI and TCP/IP layers so you always know where a problem lives.
Ethernet, Switching & ARP
MAC addressing, Ethernet frame structure, and how switches build and use a CAM table to forward frames. Broadcast domains, VLANs, and how trunking separates traffic. The Address Resolution Protocol that maps IPs to MACs, plus how ARP spoofing abuses it to enable man-in-the-middle attacks on a local network.
IP Addressing & Subnetting
IPv4 and IPv6 addressing, private vs public ranges, and CIDR notation. Subnetting a network by hand, calculating ranges, broadcast and usable hosts, and why subnet boundaries matter for segmentation. Default gateways, basic routing decisions, and how NAT lets private hosts reach the internet.
The Transport Layer: TCP & UDP
The TCP three-way handshake, sequence and acknowledgement numbers, and the control flags (SYN, ACK, FIN, RST) you will see in every capture. How connections are torn down gracefully and reset abruptly. UDP as a connectionless alternative, well-known ports, and how to tell a healthy session from a scan or a failed connection.
Core Services: DNS, DHCP & HTTP/TLS
How DNS resolves names through recursive and authoritative queries and the common record types (A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT). The DHCP DORA exchange that assigns addresses. HTTP methods, status codes and headers, and how TLS wraps HTTP in encryption during the handshake so you understand what is and is not visible on the wire.
Packet Analysis for Analysts
Capturing traffic with Wireshark and tcpdump and applying capture and display filters to isolate what matters. Following TCP streams, reading protocol dissections, and reconstructing a conversation from raw packets. Spotting anomalies such as scans, odd DNS lookups and plaintext credentials, the everyday work of a SOC analyst reading traffic.

I always treated networking as a black box. After this course I can actually open Wireshark and follow a TCP stream without panicking. The packet-reading sessions were the highlight.

The subnetting module finally made CIDR click for me. Doing it by hand and then verifying in a lab was exactly the practice I needed.

Karthik Nair

★★★★★

Perfect bridge from IT support into security. The DNS and DHCP walkthroughs explained things I had been faking an understanding of for years.

Priya Menon
Aspiring SOC Analyst
★★★★★

Beginner friendly but never dumbed down. Seeing the ARP spoofing demo made the theory stick instantly.

Arjun Patel
Network Support Engineer
★★★★★

The three-way handshake and TCP flags finally make sense when you watch them live. Great foundation before moving into any security track.
